Were you a child of the BBS era? Watch the Documentary!
August 18th, 2005
I was born in 1977. That makes me a child of the 80’s. Combine this fact with the fact I was always into computers – And it should be obvious that I had a few amazing years growing up in the BBS scene..!
If you were like me and grew up playing around with Terminate (Rulez!
) or Telemate, XMODEM/ZMODEM, BlueWave etc long before the Internet was a brand name – You probably have a warm spot in your heart for BBS-related nostalgia.
Well, so did the creator of the BBS Documentary.
If you’re like, you simply have to see this movie – “BBS: The Documentary” is an 8 episode series about all aspects of the history of the dial-up Bulletin Board System, or BBS. 3 years in the making and the result of over 200 interviews, this collection puts in one convenient package a sense of the variety and wide-reaching effects of the BBS phenomenon. All in all, over seven and a half hours of material is included across the three region-free DVDs.
Guys – There’s a whole friggin’ episode devoted to ANSI art!!!
I admit it – I simply couldn’t wait and downloaded the film via BitTorrent and watched it.
While so many hours of film must and indeed contain some boring parts, there are huge parts where the nostalgia was simply overwhelming.
Highly recommended.
