Windows 95 is 10 years old! (PLUS Amazing nostalgic video!)

It’s astonishing how time flies! I remember it as if it was yesterday a^??
The Windows 95 operating system was launched exactly 10 years ago.

The media and the computer-using public went nuts. Windows 95 was an instant hit.
The reason?
I think it was the fact that Microsoft was already dominating the OS market with DOS, and Windows 3.1 was not really an OS, but rather an application running on top of DOS.
Windows 95, for the first time, allowed all of us to enjoy the wonderful world of Graphic User Interface and Multitasking a^?? Without leaving the comfort of the familiar Microsoft environment and program compatibility.
Gee how time flies!

Windows 95

Honestly? Windows 95 sucked big time. I doubt anyone would argue about that.
However, it started a revolution and is the ancestor of GOOD operating systems, like Windows XP for instance.

Anyhow, in order to celebrate the occasion, Ia^??m proud to present a little something special I have found:
The Internet Archive has a cool video archive with some amazing stuff. For this occasion I have searched someting to celebrate with and have found:
A complete “Computer Chronicles” episode that aired in 1995, dedicated to the new Windows 95!

Enjoy :-)

  1. Moshe Rubin Says:

Check out Raymond Chen’s “The Old New Thing” blog for first-hand Windows 95 nostalgia. Examples are:

How many floppy disks did Windows 95 come on?
Buying an entire Egghead Software store
A ticket to the Windows 95 launch
Windows 95 crashes a cash register

Raymond is probably the most authoritative expert on Windows technical issues and history. See what Joel Spolsky has to say about Raymond (they don’t write such things about me! :-))
