My Windows XP desktop PC is dead!
September 25th, 2005
Thursday night I arrived home and had to do a couple of things on my computer.
To those of you that dona^??t know yet a^?? By a^?oeMy computera^?? I mean my 2.4MHz AMD Athlon PC with Windows XP installed. This is where I do all my stuff a^?? Work, academics, pictures, music etca^??
I obviously also have a great and cool Linux box running this site, but ita^??s not a^?oeMy computera^?? in the more traditional desktop PC day-to-day use.
Back to our story a^?? I turn my computer on and a^?? NOTHING. Absolutely nothing happens. I mean the power is turned on, the fans are turning, but thata^??s thata^?? Not even the BIOS is working..!
I opened the PC case and started to plug-in-and-out the memory, hard drives, CMOS battery a^?? Nothing works!
I assume ita^??s either the CPU or the motherboard that went belly up… (?!)
Since I dona^??t have an extra CPU or motherboard, therea^??s no way for me to find and fix the problem myself. I would have to take it to the shop tomorrow.
Thata^??s SO frustrating! My whole life is on that PC. Obviously I backup regularly, but last time was quite a while ago… Couple of months…
Anyhow a^?? The plus side is that I have the awesome Ubuntu Linux installed on my Linux server so ita^??s a great desktop substitute for the time being.
Ita^??s been a few months since Ia^??ve used Ubuntu Linux as my desktop OS, and ita^??s kinda cool to be doing this againa^??
First thing Ia^??ve noticed for the 2 days Ia^??ve been running Ubuntu a^?? The version of aMule in the latest Ubuntu release kicks butt!
Ita^??s really stable and runs fast.
More updates latera^??

[...] As I’ve reported on the previous post – I’ve lost (temporarily hopefully..) my Windows XP PC, so I’m “reduced” to using my Ubuntu Linux server as my main desktop PC. So far it’s been surprisingly fun and refreshing. However, I’ve encountered my first obstacle already… [...]
