Chi Mei, CMV 221D Review
October 15th, 2006
This week I ran out and bought myself an 22″ widescreen LCD monitor – Chi Mei, CMV 221D.
Here is my review:
It’s friggin’ awesome, the best bargain you can ever find!
That’s it!

I’ve been planning to upgrade my venerable 17″ LCD monitor which I’ve been using for a few years now.
I bought it when 17″ LCD screens were still rare, so it’s not the best of the lot too.
So I was planning to upgrade to a quality 19″ LCD monitor. So I waited. I waited and waited and waited.
And a couple of weeks ago I found something unbelievable: A 22″ widescreen LCD monitor (5ms refresh rate!) that actually costs LESS than your average 19″!
I found it selling for 2300 NIS (Israeli currency which translates to about $530).
Since it does sound pretty fishy, I’ve done some serious research, and discovered that the technical specs for the monitor are great and that Chi Mei, while not your normally familiar brand name are actually a huge Chinese monster that manufactures the panels for most known monitor brands.
Actually, there was a news item about Dell ordering just this very LCD panel to be sold as their own monitors.
I discovered that the Whirlpool forums, for example, has an unbelivable huge thread about this monitor (nearly 100 forum pages now!!!) all talking about how great this monitor is, how amazingly cheap it is and how the computer stores are having difficulties answering the demand.
I even found a review on PC Authority which gave it a 5/6 rating and recommended it.
So buying this baby is a no-brainer.
I rushed out, bought it, and I enjoy it immensely.
Highly recommended!
