Wireless LAN security myths that won’t die

A little more than a year ago I’ve published an article titled “Secure your wireless network” with some basic rules about how to protect your wireless network.

I’ve found a very interesting article, titled Wireless LAN security myths that won’t die, that essentially explains why most points in the earliest post, as well as most “protect your wi-fi network” articles, are simply wrong.

It’s really a fascinating read.
The article summarizes:

Waste of money, resources, time:

* MAC filtering
* Disable DHCP and use Static IP addresses
* Signal suppression with expensive paint or antenna placement

Worse than no wireless security at all:

* LEAP (adding EAP-FAST to the list)
* SSID Access Point beacon suppression (or “hiding”)

Has nothing to do with security mechanisms:

* Just use 802.11a or Bluetooth
