Xobni - The free productivity addon for Outlook
January 17th, 2008
I’m a very heavy Microsoft Outlook user. First and foremost at work, but even on my own private machine.
On both I use Microsoft Outlook and 2 Outlook addons I simply can’t live without.
The first one is SpeedFiler - Written by a dear friend actually, I’ve already posted about it before. Go ahead and check out SpeedFiler.
The second one is LookOut, a free lightning-fast search for Outlook. You should download version 1.3.0 which is the best version before Microsoft purchased the company and based its own Desktop Search software on.
BUT - Today I’ve discovered what could be the third Outlook addon that’s a must-use software:
Xobni (that’s inbox backwards) is a freeware Microsoft Outlook plug-in that adds a handful of killer features to its new Outlook sidebar. Among those features: Email analytics, extraordinarily useful contact cards, fast search, threaded (Gmail-like) conversations, and more. The video above gives an excellent overview, so give it a look. Seeing as Xobni has successfully made Outlook appear exciting (which is no easy feat), this freeware, Windows-only plug-in looks like a winner.
Oh - and by the way, you can only get the software by invitation. I have 5 of them to spare. Let me know if you need one.

I would kill for an invite. I use Outlook hourly in my business and I’m so sick of trying to sort through to find old messages, phone numbers, etc. If Xobni works like it’s suppose to it would be a productivity dream.
By the way, how the heck do you say the name. I keep thinking it must sound like zobnee but maybe I’m wrong.
If you could share an invite I’d be very grateful.

Well, I un-instaled this after using it for 4 days. It is a cool idea and is very useful, but it simply slows Outlook down way to much to be tolerable. Also when you close Outlook the exe keeps running in the background and the RAM usage is up a lot. If they can improve performance and lower RAM use then I will be happy to use it again, and would likely get licenses for the entire office.

I have to agree with Mayakovski - I simply removed it.
It’s a toy. Nothing more. And it drags down Outlook along…
NOT recommended!
