Just announced by Microsoft: Windows Phone!

Seems like Microsoft is on a lucky streak here. Windows 7 seems to be a critical and commercial success.
Now shorty after that, Microsoft just announced a couple of hours ago their new phone: Windows Phone 7 Series.

Gizmodo is already calling it “The most groundbreaking phone since the iPhone”.
Engadget are also going crazy about this phone: “Forget everything you know about Windows Mobile. Seriously, throw the whole OS concept in a garbage bin or incinerator or something.”

Until right now I really wanted to get a Google Nexus phone. But now I want this one instead. Will it ever end?!

Google Chrome OS Revealed

I was waiting for this for a long time, just an hour ago Google held a press conference and finally revealed the Google Chrome OS details.
To be honest I wasn’t blown away. It was pretty much what I expected.
It’s still interesting and cool. And for better or worse, that’s the direction technology seems to go.

So what it Chrome OS?

Not much to say here really. We all waited for this, we all knew it’s coming, and now it’s reported all over the place.
But it’s huge news of course, there’s no way I’m not posting something about that.

FREE Microsoft Security Essentials Released

Microsoft Security Essentials, the FREE anti-malware client from Microsoft is globally released according to Microsoft’s Press Release.
So far it’s been in limited beta only. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s pretty cool. Lightweight and easy on the system.

A free, downloadable, lightweight (and still-to-be-proven GOOD) anti-virus from Microsoft can seriously re-shuffle the consumer endpoint security market in the near future.

VLC Media Player 1.0.0 Released

VLC media player, the best open source, multi-platform, codec independent, video player is finally out of Beta!

It’s truly the best out there. Supports Windows, Linux and Mac. Will play literally anything you’ll throw at it without installing anything else. I’ve been using it for years now, it was ALWAYS in Beta. Not anymore, it’s now officially released as version 1.0.0.

Years of rumors were true: Google announces Google Chrome OS

All of us have heard many rumors for the last 5 years or so. Google are secretly developing an operating system that would rival the other giant in the playing ground (MS).

So now it’s finally official: The Official Google Blog has posted today a post titled Introducing the Google Chrome OS. It’ll be out next year.

Read the whole thing. No one knows how the future will shape up following this. However, let me guarantee you one thing, this announcement is a huge one and in any case we’ll see an interesting few years of struggles and power shifts between MS and Google.

Windows Vista SP2 Released

This took me by complete surprise.

I had an automatic update notice on my Vista machine today.
As usual I almost automatically chose to apply it, when I notice that, HEY, this is Service Pack 2 for Vista.
I wasn’t even expecting it to be honest.

So I looked around the internet a little, and yes, Microsoft released today the Windows Vista SP2 update. Both as a standalone downloadable version as well as an automatic update.

Among the notable changes are:

* Windows Search 4.0! (Cool, cool search tool – Finally official part of the OS)
* Removes the limit of 10 half open outbound TCP connections! (No more custom hacks for eMule!)
* Improves performance for Wi-Fi connections
* Adds support for Blu-Ray Disc media recording
* Should improve performance in general

And more.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Released

It’s now official. Internet Explorer 8 is officially released.
Is it just me or is it really the least anticipated browser release ever? I mean, don’t you kinda feel like saying “Yeah, yeah, so what..?”

As far as I can tell the new stuff in version 8 revolves around “InPrivate Browsing”, which enablesyou to browse without your history and cookies saved, and… ahhh.. and.. errr.. a bunch of other tiny new features you probably don’t really give a damn about..

I’ll just put it this way, I seriously couldn’t figure out and cool new feature, or any type of substantial improvement. I’ll guess I’ll wait for the journalists, reviewers and bloggers to prove me wrong. But until then, I don’t see any reason to upgrade.
