Nokia has officially unveiled the next flagship product, a successor to the N95:
The Nokia N97.
The N95 is really a fantastic phone, I’ve been using it for quite some time now, and even prefer it over my iPhone due to the much better PIM features (Contacts, Calendar etc..), PC sync capability, video recording and more!

GMail Adds Themes

Slowly but safely Gmail is getting closer and closer to be the mail client of choice for a lot of people.
For me at least, that’s true, as more and more of my personal email transactions are getting done on Gmail.
I still open up Outlook, but nowadays it’s really mainly for archiving. (Call me a paranoid, but I still don’t trust anyone else but myself to backup the years of email messages!)

Another cool new feature Google revealed today is Theme Support!

To customize your inbox, go to the Themes tab under Settings.

Free Zonealarm Pro Tomorrow

Checkpoint, the developers of Zonealarm Pro, will hand out the software program for free tomorrow. To be precise, it will be free starting at 6 AM PDT on Tuesday 18 and remain so for the next 24 hours!!

The url with the free offer will go live at the same time which is why it cannot be posted yet. It is likely that the following page will provide access to the download, it seems to be connected to the offer.

Users who download Zonealarm Pro will receive the software program for free including its one year subscription. The package would normally cost $39.95 for a year. The Zonealarm Pro suite contains a firewall and anti-spyware application.

The website will most likely be overrun tomorrow by thousands of users who want to grab their free copy. The best spots are probably to be among the first or download it in the second half of the day.

WD TV HD Media Player - I want one!

Wow, this is cool.

A couple of weeks ago, completely under the radar and with no fanfare and marketing, Western Digital released a product which throws a serious curve ball into the whole Streaming/HD/HTPC ball game.

What it released was WD TV HD Media Player - A simple little gadget that you can use to attach any USB external HD to your TV and receiver, and play the content inside, including FULL HD!
Here’s one review, probably many more to come…

And the amazing part? It costs $99!!!

I even found it sold here in Israel already for 620 NIS…
I want one, I want one, I want one!

First Glimpse of the Star Trek Trailer

If you’re even slightly geeky, you’re bound to be at least curious with the all new Star Trek movie, recasting and retelling the original Star Trek tale.
I’m one of those who used to watch the episodes growing up, never really a huge fan or anything, but still watched quite a lot of those during my summer vacations.

There’s a very skimpy, yet awesome teaser trailer on the official Web site. And now someone managed to film a cool new Start Trek teaser trailer.

Bin Laden, Bush and the Mossad

Here’s a great one I got today (Cheers Ranbir!) which I just had to share:

After numerous rounds of ‘We don’t even know if Osama bin Laden is still alive’, Osama himself decided to send George Bush a letter in his own hand writing to let him know he was still in the game.

Bush opened the letter and it contained a single line of coded message:

370H-SSV-0773H

Bush was baffled, so he e-mailed it to Condoleezza Rice. Condi and her aides had not a clue either, so they sent it to the FBI.

No one could solve it at the FBI so it went to the CIA, and then to MI6.
Eventually they asked the Mossad (Israeli intelligence) for help.

Within a minute the Mossad emailed the White House with this reply:
‘Tell the President he’s holding the note upside down.’

Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) Released

The long awaited Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) was released today.
And I’m telling you guys, with each release and release this thing gets better and better, closer and closer to a proper desktop OS.

Some of the veteran readers here might remember my short experiment with using Ubuntu as my main OS instead of Windows. I’m actually kinda itchin’ to try it out again.. Err.. Maybe some time soon..

GMail for Mobile v2.0 released

The Official Gmail Blog has announced a couple of days ago that Gmail for Mobile 2.0 was released.
It’s a must have app on your cell phone, and it’s definitely the most used app on my Nokia N95.

Version 2.0 is designed to be more reliable in low signal areas and provides basic offline support for phones like the Nokia N95, Sony Ericsson W910i, and BlackBerry Curve. You can now log into multiple accounts (including both Gmail and Google Apps email accounts) at the same time. Switching between them is as easy as a few button clicks or just hitting + j on phones that have a QWERTY keyboard. Google also added support for multiple mobile drafts, undo (using the menu or the z shortcut), and sending mail in the background (no more staring at the “Sending…” dialog until it finally gets sent). Be sure to check the help page from Gmail for mobile’s main menu for a list of all keyboard shortcuts.

To download Gmail for mobile version 2.0, just go to m.google.com/mail in your mobile browser.

Google Maps Israel

While everyone is going crazy about the new Google browser that was released to Beta today (Google Chrome) - Google actually released something a lot more exciting for me today.
This news item can easily be overlooked, but its a big deal for us Israelis.

Google has FINALLY released today the proper Hebrew version of Google Maps. This means we can finally use Google Maps for navigating in Israel, and even in Hebrew.
YAAAAY!!!
